Things to do before you move checklist:

It’s very important for you to plan for every aspect of your move. The important thing to remember is the 5 P’s Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance. There is a lot to do to prepare, yet you’ll be thankful you started early because it can save you a ton of money (because the movers can expidite your move, and it will make your packing and unpacking go much smoother. So we put together this epic moving checklist to ensure you these stay on top of your must-do list.

1. Make “moving” folder both digital with Google Drive and a physical binder that has everything related to your move.
Save all of your recipets and quotes for your move. In your moving folder lable all the rooms in your new house it can be numeric or alphbetical, Room 1 is the living room, Room 2 is Kitchen, Room 3 is downstairs bathroom for easy unloading at your new location

2. Find cleaners for when you move out

From our experience, professional cleaning companies will get the job in the fraction of the time and will save you hours of hard dirty labor. Just like movers, worth every penny

3. Create a budget for any additional costs
Start by getting a moving estimate and knowing how many hours you want to plan to pay for in advance. There is always ways to minimize the time the movers need to be moving, start with the large items first and work your way up from there in your budget. Things to factor in the time the movers will be there are how far the loading area where the truck is parked, from your front door. The longer the movers have to walk the more time the move will take. So if you have a-lot of miscellaneous items like golf clubs, loose clothes and pictures you can move yourself it might save you some money.

4. Read over all documents related to your move

It is very important that you understand what you are paying for, that the date and time are correct and how many movers and trucks, and what insurance will or will not cover. Purchasing additional insurance for more expensive items that you want to move is always an option

5. Try to plan your move around your work schedule
Weekends are always peak days for moving so if you can move your days off during the week it will help reduce the cost of your move. Also a side note, pack an essential box with everything you will need immediately, work clothes, dishes, hygiene, shower curtain ect. and have that moved separately or packed last on the truck

6. Request transcripts for your kids from their current school for their new school / forward your mail to your new address/ transfer internet and cable

If you are changing schools, this will save you time if you can do it a few months prior to the move. Forwarding the mail can be done via the USPS website. For your cable and internet you can set the appointment for the same day as your move for the internet and cable so there is no delay in service.

7.  Plan a yard sale
We always suggest posting it on Craigslist in the garage sale section. We advise posting the ad for one hour later than you plan on people showing up because the professional garage sale folks always show up early. Then whatever you want to discard put on the free section afterwards, that way it there will not be too much to transport to the donation sites afterwards

8. Make sure all specialty items such as large safes, pool tables and pianos are mentioned.
The movers will need special tools to move these items, and some of the larger (or more expensive) items, may need to be moved on another time before or after the move date.

9.Order moving materials early It is always better to have than to have not a great poet once said. This is especially true for moving materials. Nothing says unprepared for a move like packing last minute items in garbage bags and pillow cases
